A Quote
"If A is success in life, then A=x+y+z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut."

( I wonder if this is where Coldplay got the title for their new album??)

Why is Life Like That?
Last night I had dreams about death. In my dream several of my relatives died. The one that impacted me the most was my mother's death. It was so real. I realized that there were so many things left unsaid. I awoke during the dream and almost started to cry, but then I went right back to sleep and into the dream once more. It was bizarre.
Perhaps I was dreaming about death and specifically the death of my mother because I finished 'Tis, the sequel to Angela's Ashes last night. At the end of the book his own mother dies and I couldn't help but think that there were so many things that they should have talked about before she died.
Why is life like that? Why to we avoid the deep troubling things in our souls that we should talk about and only talk about the mundane -especially with our parents?
(Steph, obviously this isn't you! Do you talk about everything with your parents? )

The Purse in the Middle of the Hall
I'm definitely feeling better today... no sense of impending doom- except for the impending period. Hee hee. (Sorry to the occasional boy who's name starts with J that reads my blog off and on.)
I went to Commercial Drive this afternoon with my friend. We had a lovely time, just the two of us. We grabbed a coffee and then went into a little spanish shop. They have such nice jewlery. I wanted an anklet, a braclet and a necklace. I settled for the braclet. I'll be going back to get more stuff in the future!

I Hate when this Happens
The weather is finally beautiful. My family is great. I have a wonderful life. Why do I feel crappy today? I hate when this happens. The feeling like there's something missing, like you've done something wrong, but you just don't know what it is. There is an unrest inside of me. It wasn't there yesterday. It showed up this morning, for no reason, unbided.

Sunny Days (con't)
So where did I leave off? Oh yeah, the ducks. (If you haven't read the previous post do so first... no, you know, it doesn't really matter... do whatever.)

So the ducks... they were cute - what else is there to say about the ducks? Nothing. Moving on.
After the ducks (snicker), we went through the rose garden, taking pictures of the flowers for our desktop,

to the ticket booth where we wanted to find out how much it costs for the horse-drawn carriage tour. It's more expensive than the aquarium. Can you believe that? Twenty-three bucks for adult and fourteen bucks for kids. There was no way we were going to pay that for an hour ride around Stanley Park when we could catch the trolley bus for free. It's one of those "we'll do that when we're rich!" things.
*********
On Sunday we had a big tailgate party in the parking lot of our church. The weather was brilliant; not a cloud in the sky - which for some presented a bit of a detriment to their skin. I believe a few sunburns were picked up that afternoon. The backs of my shoulders were a bit tender and red, but overall my arms just turned a nice shade of brown. I love the sun.
*********
Yesterday I had a doozie of a headache. I layed on the couch and took four ibuprofen, trying to get rid of it. Three and a half hours later it finally subsided. Three and half hours isn't really that bad when it comes to headaches. My mom used to get them for thirty-six hours straight before they'd go away.
I figured out last night, after reading a pamphlet, that I suffer from (I hate to say the word, chronic) migranes. I've had headaches for years, but I've always thought that they were coffee related. And although that may be the case, it also may have nothing to do with that. Some migranes are food induced. Some are stress or anxiety induce, some are caused by sinus infection, as well as several other factors. They also run in families and I remember my uncles suffering from them as well. I'd really like to know exactly what causes mine because then I could avoid it... unless it's stress, then I don't know what I'll do. Maybe I could go to regular massage therapy. I think that I'm going to try homeopathy. Gotta do something!
Do any of you suffer from migranes? What do you do about them? Is there any way to prevent them?

Sunny Days
I had a great weekend hanging out in the sunshine. I guess that summer has finally come to the coast. Half way through July! - What a rip off!
On Saturday we got up and went to our favourite breakfast place in White Rock, The Yucca Tree Cafe. We always order the same things: Just Peach Waffles, two Belgian waffles each topped with French vanilla yoghurt (Jersey Farm -this is the only place that I've had it and I want to know where to buy it, it's so good), a half peach and whipped cream, and Yucca Fried Banana French Toast, French toast topped with a fried banana, walnut, brown sugar sauce (tastes like amazing banana bread). There are so many other things on the menu that beg to be tasted, but since we only go a few times in a year, we always order the same thing because we love it so much!
After breakfast we thought that we'd go do something fun from our Entertainment Book. We looked at going to Playdium or horseback riding, but we finally decided to go the aquarium. We got some snacks together and soon we were on our way. Our family loves going to the Aquarium, so we were really excited. After we finally found a parking spot (the weather was gorgeous, so everyone in the Lower Mainland decided to go to Stanley Park), Ken got out to get the ticket from the machine and I grabbed the coupon book to extract the coupon for the aquarium, read the fine print and saw that it was only good for every month except July or August. Shucks! Since we had already purchased our parking pass, we decided to stay and enjoy the park.
We ate popcorn and popsicles and took pictures. We went to the playground and the waterpark. We pretended to feed the ducks, who actually turn out to be very stupid creatures. All you had to do was toss a few pebbles and they came running and gave us as much attention as any ol' person doling out the popcorn (which I wouldn't feed them anyway).

(Got to go to work... will continue post later!)

Never EVER Take Yourself Too Seriously!
Oh my Goodness!!!!
I just listened to Vial of Worship at full volume. I am telling you, I laughed out loud!
I'm still laughing actually. I don't know if it's the production, which sucks to high heaven, or if it's hearing all those voices at the end of Robed in Splendor singing out of tune and just going nuts all around, but it is flipin' hilarious! If you have a copy of that CD, dig it out, take a listen and have a really good laugh.

OH The Fun to Be Had!!
OK, A friend said to do this and it seem fun so...
Do this!
01 ~ Think of the first word that comes to mind when you think of me.
02 ~ Run a Google image search on that word.
03 ~ Reply to this entry and post one of the pictures from your search, but don't tell me what the word was. In my case you'll have to give me the URL of the photo that you found because Blogger doesn't support images in it's comments. DARN!!
04 ~ Put this in your blog, so I can do the same!!

I Realize that I Need To Update...
So here I am.
What have I done in the past week?
I've worked at the coffee shop... nothing too exciting there... as much as I like it, I do it for the pay check (Sorry Boss).
I've avoided the gym - that wasn't as hard as it sounds! I was fighting a cold all last week, which I'm happy to report that I am over. (We'll see if I get some exercising in tonight.)
I'm reading a book - Angela's Ashes. Have any of you read it? I'm really enjoying it. A friend of mine said that while reading it she had to drink red wine because it's so sad. I feel that when it's a true story, I can't look away. I think that it's amazing what people have had to live through and what it's humanly possible to survive.
My daughter is attending a summer day camp. It's lots of fun. She's already gone swimming and bowling. It last for six weeks and includes food - what a deal for $60!
Curly-Q visited for a couple of days. That was so fun! I really enjoy her company... I do, I really really do!! (PS. Curly, I got a few on-sale tops from American Eagle to go with those jeans I got. I felt so stylish on Sunday!! tee-hee)
Now for something a little more serious... I'm planning on reading Hebrews throughout this week. Anyone wish to join me? We could chat about our thoughts and feelings in regards to it. Just a suggestion. Our pastor challenged us to talk and inteact and think about Jesus as Lord of Creation/"Supreme Being"/High-and-Lifted-Up this week as opposed to something more casual like friend and watch how our view of Him changes. Interesting exercise. I realized today already just how hard that is for me, I'm so used to being conversational and relaxed and familiar.
So, how's that for an update?
Catch ya later.

A New Computer, A New Blog
I really should be sleeping right now, but no, I'm here fixing up my new template. Trying to get it just right. I'm crazy about it... and I really enjoy figuring out all of the quirks of HTML. What a lovely predicament!
I'm so tired and I should have gone to sleep an hour and a half ago when I got ready for bed. But you know how new toys (this computer for example) are - it's hard to let them go and just go to bed. I am going to pay for this indiscretion tomorrow, I tell you!
Well goodnight and sweet dreams!

I Read a Great Quote the Other Day...
This is something that struck home for me when I read it, especially the part I typed in bold.
It's Maya Angelou's grandmother talking to her when she was a young girl. "Sister, there are people who went to sleep all over the world last night, poor and rich and black and white, but they will never wake again. Sister, those who expected to rise did not, their beds became their cooling boards, and their blankets became their winding sheets. And those dead folks would give anything, anything at all for just five more minutes of this weather or ten minutes of that plowing that person was grumbling about. So watch yourself about complaining, Sister. What you're supposed to do when you don't like a thing is change it. If you can't change it, change the way you think about it. Don't complain."
Maya goes on to comment that "whinning is not only graceless, but it can also be dangerous because it can alert a brute that a victim is in the neighbourhood."
