See You Soon... Hopefully!

Let me tell you... Computer Land lookes strange in 16 colours. Yes, folks, this is it... our computer is old and it's going rapidly. It's been a good computer, it's serviced us well for over five years now. She's really quite an old battle-axe. Join me now as we say farewell to an old friend. "Amazing grace how sweet the sound...." (They sing that at every funeral on TV or it's played on the pipes anyway!)

This is all to say that my 'puter is biting the dust. If you've wondered why I haven't been on MSN or updating my blog, now you know - it's my dog-gone computer.

Love you,(tears flowing)I'll miss your blogs, (snot running) and hopefully, you'll still remember me when I come (sob) back online. (losing it - running from the room, face in hands, snot and tears everywhere)

Just Venting and What-not

This year I have been reading with Autumn's grade one class every Friday morning. It's been very cool to see each individual child's development. I have seen how much parent participation affects a child's education.

What a joy it is to watch them learn. I'm not saying that sometimes it not tedious and boring, especially when you've heard the same book four or five times before, but overall it's definitely it's own reward.

The simple act of reading to or letting them read to you, is so incredibly significant in their reading skill. It's heart breaking to know that certain children are not getting the attention at home that they should be, to know that because of their parents' choices they are being hindered in their education. It's so sad. I have even seen in grade one that some parents don't pay enough attention to their children to send them to school in clean clothes.

I'm not talking about once in a blue moon something got over-looked or they spilt breakfast on themselves... It tends to be the same children, day after day. :( Unfortunately, this will affect their social development, perhaps not now, but as the children age they will notice... You know how kids are? They exploit the weaknesses in each other. Not all are like this, but it's not uncommon.

So for pete's sake... Read with your children, bathe them and make sure they brush their teeth!!! Of course all of you do... So I'm not talking to you... I'm just venting.

Today, as the last day of home reading for the year, the kids each read me their Father's Day entry in their journals. They are so cute! I love what kids say about their dads. They all think that their dad is the best... That's so awesome. But there was one child must not have a dad because she just wrote about her mom. Aww! When Autumn wrote about her having the best dad she added that "she's ever known, because all kids think that their dad is the best." To top off my day, my kid was the only one to mention a 'bad' attribute about her father... LOL! She said, "I don't like it when my dad is mad." Oh great! Now the teacher's going to think that Ken's an angry father! So funny. That's kids for ya.

I love glimpsing at the world through her eyes.

It's a Momentous Day...

I just taught my daughter the ole Stuff-Your-Bra-With-Socks-To-Make-It-Look-Like-You-Have-Big-Boobs Trick. So now she's dressed up as me, in my skirt, top, shoes, purse and belt. So cute.

Laundry Day/Thinking of Baking Banana Bread/Lazy and Slept on the Couch this Morning

Nothing much going on around here today. I stayed up late last night and finished The Notebook... Okay, did the ending of that movie make me bawl or what! Even when I filled Ken in on the ending, I couldn't stop myself from crying while I related the rest of the story to him. I am so glad I was watching it alone. Though I did have a moment where I could see Ken, Derek, Corena and I watching it altogether in the living room, all of us bawling our eyes out and saying one after another (like we do when TV makes us cry... it happens a lot in this household! ARTISTS! sheesh!), "Stupid movie! I hate this movie! Stupid movie." It's really quite funny! LOL. We laugh at ourselves as we cry and feel and suspend our belief, as though this is happening to us or around us. It's amazing how we, as human beings have that capacity to let go of our reality and relate to something that's fictional. I think it's because we see the possibility of reality in what's being portrayed. Like in The Notebook last night, it was about love, life-long love, starting out kind of shaky and passionate and growing into an absolute devotion to one another no matter the circumstances. I believe in love like that. It's too bad that more people haven't had the opportunity to experience that.
It was scary to look at the possibility of old age robbing you of the memories of your life. That's got to be one of the most awful diseases out there. I love my man and my child and I never want to lose them.

Now that I'm up and moving, I think that I'll get ready, walk to Safeway and get the ingredients that I need to make some delicious banana chocolate chip bread. Mmmmmm. I love that stuff. The only thing that would make it better is that if someone would come over and share it and some tea with me. But that's putting the cart in front of the wagon... It'll be a few hours (if I actually do it! *sheepish grin* Why do I always give myself a way out?)

Rambling... Writing Random Thoughts

Black, white
Not everything is trite
But that was

Big or small
Who's the fairest at the mall
And does it matter?

New and old
So few are so bold
To stand up for the masses
We'd rather sit in classes
Like drones
Let's not disturb old bones
Who knows what would happen?

God or the Devil
Why think of good when you could think of evil?

Poverty or wealth
At least we have our health
But do they?

When on TV is a child I see,
Hungry or upset,
Grieving mother, father at their grave,
I know that if I had their pain,
That I would truely go insane,

And while I watch,
I imagine that one of them is my child,
That I've died,
But I haven't,
I'm the one that is still here,
The one that can still make a differnce,
I'm the one

Will I stand and watch them bleed?

Eeeeeeew!

Did you know that there are worms, beetles, slugs, spiders and all manner of creepy crawly things living in the dirt? Oh My Gosh. I attempted to weed our front flower (HA!) slash rock slash weed garden out in front of our house this morning... with bare hands. If I sound disgusted, I am. But don't get me wrong... I think that I could really Grow (HA HA!) to enjoy gardening. It would take some hard work, reading up, pestering of my friend Miriam aka Champion Gardener and some GLOVES, but I could learn to love it.

I read a recipe for herbicide in my Canadian Living Magazine, if anyone is interested... I sprayed it on this morning, so I don't actually know if it works, but here it is: 4 cups white vinegar, 1/4 cup salt, 2 TBSP dish detergent. I'll try to remember to let you know whether it works or not.

One Step Closer to Knowing...

Our gig on Friday night at Club 340 was so good! The house was decently packed. I thought that everyone was there for the next band, Rally Car (they made it into the top ten of Seeds). However, noticed that when they were on that the crowd was a bit thinner for them than it was for us. So I guess we piqued their interest. Sweet! Of course the Ultra Vixen Peep Show had a much bigger crowd than we did... I kept all of my clothes of the whole time and I can't say the same for those girls! But I guess that was the whole point of their show.

***********************************

I don't know why, but yesterday when we (SSE) lead worship it felt so significant. I felt so different. I didn't start out feeling different when the service started but as we progressed through the songs I felt different. I felt so free. I felt so in step with the Holy Spirit. It just felt more real and more connected and the weird thing is that I have felt connected before. Like I said, it was just different. I just became more of who I really am. Does that sound quacky? Or have you felt something like that happen inside of you before? The word significant is the one word that I kept thinking all day. Yesterday was significant. Derek felt it too.
It was weird because during the first bit I was feeling quite playful. There was literally only half the church there when we started. I said to them jokingly, "Why don't you pull out your cel phones and call everyone you know that should be here and tell them we're starting!" It was funny; everyone was chuckling. Then we launching into the first song - just happy and playful. Then it seemed like everyone still wanted the upbeat stuff and it didn't feel right to just launch into our heavy, intense songs that we had planned, so I suggested that we play Undignified. When it got to the part about nothing hindering this passion in my soul, it stuck me funny because none of us were really being that passionate. So I started going off almost sarcastically like, "Hey Lord... Look at my passion... don't You love my passion? Look at my incredible Passion! etc." Ken said that it reminded him of Gwen Stephani.
I can't believe I took that kind of liberty. I'm like a dog who doesn't know how long my leash is and I just keep pulling, wondering when someone is going to reign me in. And no one does.
Then when we went deep into worship the next couple of songs I felt like I was pushing the 'envelope' again. In that part I felt like the Lord was questioning us on our beliefs... our beliefs about him, about what he's done, about what he's able to do and more than that, He just wanted us to Think about Him, Think about what we were doing there, Think about Who we are worshiping. (I was speaking all of this out loud.)
I guess it's one of those things that you have to be there to even know what I'm babbling on about... or maybe you just have to be inside my head. Whatever the case, yesterday was a significant day for me... even if I can't explain it!
Wanna go ride bikes?
