The Tree of Life
Ahh yes, it is Saturday night @ 1 in the morning and I am wide awake. How typical is that for me? Of course we have to get up and be at church at the ___ crack of dawn! 7:30 to be exact, but who's counting? On top of that, I'm pretty sure that I am not playing or singing. Just getting there for no particular reason. Wah wah wah!
Hey something of note here:
I was reading a Gene Edwards book last night and he had a very good point about something spiritual. Remember the Garden of Eden? Of course you do! Who am I kidding! Anyway, 'member that guy, Adam, and that girl, Eve, and how they ate from the WRONG tree? Yeah, well anyway, good ole Gene pointed out that the knowledge of good and evil both came from the same tree. I always thought of that in terms of the evil part - sin and doing wrong but I never thought of it from the angle that good or trying to be good came from that same tree - the tree that brought death. So what am I trying to say you might say?! I dunno, afterall, it is one o'clock in the morning!
But really I thought that this was great:
"Hear ye, all leagalists!
Good is not the issue that you have to stuggle with. 'Being good' is certainly not God's measurement. Morals are not the issue. Run after decency, rules, rights, morality, modesty, honesty and right living until you are half mad with despair; yet you will never satisfy the drive in you to 'be good.' Never! And despite your greatest efforts, you will never see others who you demand 'be good', do anything but fail. They, living under your rules, will never live up to your demands of them.
No matter how moral you are, you will never quiet that voice within you which cries out, 'Do better.' or "You haven't quite gone far enough.' or 'Do better, this is not high enough.'
The drive to do good come from the tree of tyranny, rules, legalism, performace, evil and good.
Life and freedom come from a wholly different tree. Victory is in life, not good.
The tree from which Adam did not eat was not called the Tree of Good. It was called The Tree of Life."
Anyway, I guess that just showed me, yet again, that what God really wants is for me to walk in the Spirit. And when I do that, all of the good stuff (ie. love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, whatever that meant 400 years ago!!) follows. I want to be anti-striving!! and pro-living-in-the-Spirit!!
Halleluijah, amen.
And that concludes my early Sunday morning sermon. I'm hitting the sack now. Sweet dreams to me. (I'll be joining all of you who already fell asleep against your monitors.)

My legs and back have been aching for three days now for no apparent reason, especially when I sit down. Has anyone every experienced this before?

Autumn's going off to school in one week!! Ahhhhh! The perspective is that it's only two and half hours a day, just enough time for me to race to the gym, do my work out and go back to pick her up. I'm thinkin' that if I'm faithful, I'm going to look so buff in ten months! We'll see how I do.
Ken is still enjoying his job installing security systems. He's really getting a handle on it and is doing more and more independently. A cool thing too is that he is finding himself working with computers just like he was trained to in school. God really does work everything out! For so long we couldn't see why God had opened all the doors for him to go to school and then there didn't seem like there was any point to him going. Now we can see that he is being able to use it. Hurray!
And here is something funny about me... Last night in our Bible study we were practicing hearing what God had to say to each other. During the first round Derek was in 'the hot seat' and we were all waiting to hear from God what He wanted to say to Derek. My head is like a radio at the best of times, but trying to be silent and listen makes me feel crazy. So when it was time to tell Derek what God had to say to him I had to admit that all that was going through my head were a couple of songs. They encouraged me to share which songs, so I did. I only knew the one line of a song, but Derek and Corena recongnized it and own that cd. We got out the lyrics to read what the rest of the song said. It was pretty cool, the lyrics totally spoke to Derek and were relevant! So now I don't worry about the radio in my head, I feel that God can use that to speak to people. I actually got different songs for each person in the group. It was really neat!!

(In a calling sort of voice) Who wants to hear an update?!
(silence, no wait! there's a sound of a dripping faucet!) Well I guess I'll update anyway...
It has been a very busy week. Lettuce start from last Saturday... LB played a 45 minute set for Tom Lee's (in Abbostford) first anniversary. We opened up for T.B.O (Tim Bauchman Only - or is that B.T.O?). We had great crowd response, the manager said that it was the only time the store was empty all day. And don't worry, we were playing outside.
Moving on to Sunday. We played for Jesse in church. And had a social rest of the day.
Monday found up on the set of RantTV.com. If any of you were watching, I hope that you didn't suffer too much with all of the profanity. It was not a Christian gig, as you may have quickly realized! Profanity aside, we met some great people in the arts community in Langley. They know that we are Christians and approachable and real. Who knows, we may be the only Christians that they've met in the last ten years!
Tuesday... Tuesday? Perhaps nothing happened on Tuesday and Perhaps the world stopped turning! Derek brought home a recording studio and we started on The Dungeon Mix.
Wednesday saw me singing my lungs out in The Dugeon, adding backing vocals to the first mix that Brad gave us. It also observed me practicing for the up-coming Battle at the Barn. No stress....
Thursday - more recording, more vocals, more practicing, more stressing, more tired. The only other thing that I can think of is that I had a new Drill Sergant, er, Aquafit Instructor. Which accounts for the tiredness. SHe added new meaning to the words Harder, Faster, ISOLATE!!!!
And that brings me to today. CLean Clean Clean! so that's it, you are filled in! It wasn't that bad was it?

I had such a bad dream last night. It's so funny because dreams aren't so bad when you tell them back, but in the dream you can be absolutely devastated.
In my dream I was drowning my sorrows and my sorrows they learned to swim... Oh just kidding! That wasn't my dream at all!
In my dream I found out that these women that I looked up to did not like my guitar playing at all. They thought that I totally sucked. But it went deeper than that - they just didn't like me. So like usual, I spent a good portion of the rest of the dream lamenting and wailing - literally!
I hate the dreams in which that happens. They totally come into the next day and make you feel emotionally drained even before you do anything. And I hate that those women are real people that I know (or knew) and love(d). The one cool thing that stands out from my dream is that there was one lady, Sonia, who was there for me - even though there wasn't any interaction with her.
The last thing that I remember about my dream is that I was sitting in a SUV type vehicle, waiting for someone. He had forgotten to put the E-brake on. The yard was full of snow and the SUV started sliding down a hill, then it acutally just flipped over on it rear end - that' when I jumped out! (What an action hero!!)

Going out to Abbotsford to play for Tom Lee's first anniversary this afternoon. We get to play for forty-five minutes, so that's nice. I'm sure that we'll make the most of it.
I went to the gym today and found out that I gained fat and lost weight and inches. How bizzare!! I really don't care about the weight part, but I am trying to get my body fat % down to a healthier level and I do want to lose inches - unless it's muscles! I like muscles. I think the ideal body that I want to have is just lean and muscular, something like Madonna or Angilina Jolie. But who wouldn't want to look like them, right??!

I had a very fun experience at aqua-fit today. The instuctor never actually showed up so the students, most of them over the age of 50, decided to lead the class. It was great! I really like older people, they are so fun and friendly and you never feel self-conscious around them.

Don't read the next post.
I'm just rambling on.
You'll regret it.
Don't make me say, "I told you so."

I am in my room, surrounded by the mess on my desk
Listening to children and adults and the hum that makes up a regular day in my life
Except there is an added voice, not one of reason, but one that does add a certain affectionate element to my life
....
That voice just happened to grow legs and walk into my room
Interupting my train of thought
I guess to say that is to say that I actually had something of value to say - which I didn't.
But I do know that people like to see a little something new on here periodically or they get bored and go away
A long way away
....
For the first time in a long time last night I read a book into the wee hours. And for the first time in a long time a fiction book made me cry. It was very vivid emotional scene in which the lady falls in love with a man and he becomes someone else durig their marriage. She tries so hard to change herself to fit into his world and, in a final selfish act, he abandones his wife and daughter for another women. This coming on the heels of her dearly loved mother's death, very nearly crushes the women and she tries, unsucessfully, to commit suicide. She feels desparately alone in the world and has a hard time trusting ever again.
Normally I don't really like books like this, however, I had read Agatha Christie's biography a few years ago, and this book was almost word for word. (I don't know about the suicide attempt.) I think this book must have been a sort of therapy for her and I can relate to that. I think that for many artists their medium is their outlet for emotion, especially pain. I know that I've used song writing that way. And you don't have to look very far in that field to find other examples.

I am in the Land of Burn-in-ating. Yes, that's right folks, I am in Kamloops. We are staying with our good friends, Claude and Sylvette. It's so nice and peaceful in their house; we always feel like we are at home. Good thing for them that we actually love The Lower Mainland and all of our new friends there or we might be tempted to stay... well if it wasn't Kamloops.
We have the first mix of our new cd along on this trip. It's really interesting to see the different ways that people react to it. My favorite person to show (by a long-shot) was Jewel. Her interest and attention to the lyrics actually made me feel the emotion if the songs more than I have ever felt. That was very cool. Gene and Jewel both heard the lyrics for Friendship is an Awful Thing and thought of a marriage relationship more than just friendship. I could hear that too as I listened with them.
We had a pleasant surprise yesterday evening. Some friends from Mackenzie got a hold of us - they were here visiting too. So we went down and met them at Riverside Park. Their nine month old daughter is so cute and such a ham! It was great to see them again.
We went and watch Andrea duke it out in a karaoke competion. We don't find out until Wednesday if she won the $400. I wonder if I get a cut for supporting her? It's funny cause if she wins, she'll have made more dough than I... and I write my own music!!!! Oh the injustice!!! Maybe I'll take up the karaoke call and make some money to finance my career as a Rock Star.
Well, that's enough rambling for now.
